In this episode I chat with Michelle Redfern, one of Australia’s most prominent female leadership experts. Michelle is the founder of Advancing Women, a business created to help women everywhere advance themselves in our male dominated corporate world. The business is about providing women tools they need to navigate their way through the world as well as advocate on behalf of women in sport, business and politics.
In this episode she talks about what it was like for her to grow up in regional Australia, and how it has shaped her.
Some take aways: “Women have great emotional intelligence. Stop calling what they have soft skills. Its bullshit.. We all need emotional intelligence in the future to differentiate us from the machines.” Hard to disagree there.
What do women need? Power. Money. Influence. She’s no wallflower.
A busy women’s mentor herself, Michelle talks about how important it is to see the women’s game in AFL this year as a platform to elevate women in leadership across the board, which she believes has laid the ground to change the mindset of those watching – to inspire future generations of women who want to have a crack at anything they want to do. She argues women need to see women in power to aspire to senior positions themselves and she also believes we need to strive to be powerful AND emotionally intelligent leaders, a quality all smart compassionate leaders need. Michelle is a kick arse business woman herself, with a soft heart and knows her footy. She loves her teams, she loves her tribe and believe me, that tribe is building exponentially – she’s a woman to watch big time.
Intro and outro music credit is by the fabulous Bamboos (track Helpless Blues) a hot Melbourne band.
